The Organization of Ideas

  • Analyzing your readers' needs
  • Arranging your thoughts so they can be easily understood by the reader
  • Using proven formats, such as PREP and PASS to quickly and effectively organize ideas
  • Using forceful connecting words to link ideas and increase understanding
  • Writing powerful introductions and executive summaries
  • Presenting graphics so they produce the effect you want

  • Gaining and maintaining the readers' interest
  • Choosing lists over narrative statements
  • Keeping lists parallel
  • Making your documents visually appealing
  • Using labels and "talking heads" to ensure your key ideas are understood
