(One-day workshop)

Sometimes when we communicating with others, we wonder what we said that caused that individual to respond in a negative manner. In this workshop you will discover the four types of communication that you use and discover the one you favour over all others. Self discovery leads to the understanding of others

  • Recognize your strengths and weaknesses as a communicator
  • Know yourself and therefore know others
  • Understand how stress causes problems with behaviours and communication

COURSE OUTLINE

Communication Impact

  • Understanding that it is not what you say but how you say it that makes the difference
  • Knowing that first impressions are made in seconds: how to make them powerful
  • Following the Platinum Rule: do unto others as they would do unto themselves
  • Appreciating that we are always communicating


Your Behaviour Styles

  • Understanding the four behavioural styles and their impact on communication
  • Developing communication techniques for each style
  • Determining the impact our style has on others and knowing how to mirror their style
  • Identifying how your style can maintain effective teams


The Difficult Conversation

  • Creating methods to deal with other styles when the conversation gets difficult
  • Using assertive versus. non-assertive body language
  • Understanding that behaviour breeds behaviour: we have choice

Putting It Together

  • Creating an action plan for future success

METHODS TO BE USED:

This is an interactive workshop and includes role plays so participants can practice the skills of communication. The assessment instrument called DiSC© is used in this workshop. It is designed to identify behaviours displayed while under stress.

DiSC© identifies:
  • Why we act the way we do
  • How others see us
  • What skills we need to develop to become more effective
