Harassment: Sensitivity Training

(Half-day Workshop)

This workshop provides a Canadian perspective on the topic of harassment. It provides relevant information about harassment prevention and reporting. It is designed to be customized for each participating company so that the organization’s harassment policies and procedures are integrated into the workshop content for consistency and continuity while also conveying the subject matter in a positive and proactive way for all employees.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

  • Employees of all levels in the organization
  • Managers and supervisors responsible for promoting employee rights
  • Human resource personnel responsible for communicating policies and procedures regarding harassment in the workplace

YOU WILL LEARN:

  • To understand the benefit of knowing the law and the organization’s policy regarding how to prevent, handle, report, and follow up harassment situations in your workplace environment

  • To review and apply relevant information regarding intent versus effect, particularly as they apply to specific verbal and non-verbal situations you might encounter with internal and external “customers”

  • To discuss and practise useful techniques for responding verbally and non-verbally to challenging situations that require assertiveness and diplomacy

Defining Harassment in Canada

  • Testing your knowledge of harassment guidelines for Canada
  • Understanding Canadian legal guidelines and human rights policies
  • Identifying, reporting, and following up on harassment


Analyzing Harassment Situations in the Canadian Workplace

  • Intended vs. unintentional
  • Gender and intercultural examples
  • Verbal indications and how to prevent/handle them
  • Non-verbal Indications and how to prevent/handle them
  • Canadian case studies – review and discussion

Communicating Assertively and Diplomatically

  • Understanding and using the “I” technique
  • The EPM formula
  • Role play practice

Putting It into Practice

  • Action checklist
  • Company policies and procedures
